Yeah it's beautiful afternoon isn't it and what a lovely countryside around here.

I mean we've got we've got the upper Rhine here it's pretty wide what would you say that's about

it's good 7500 yards crosses and it's a big fast flowing trade river so I wouldn't want to swim it

No I wouldn't but people do as we're standing by memorial here and it says there's some memorial

has been erected in the year 2003 and unveiled by Sergeant MJ Potter one of those who did go across

here today's you swim across again to honour and commemorate this act may this be a sign of ever

lasting friendship well absolutely why not but but we're looking back now and one of

the things driving down here hours I was really struck by actually you gone quite a bit of high ground

yep on the perimeter we're looking back at the perimeter we're looking at Oosterbeak church

the old church at the bottom of the bottom right hand corner yeah lots of woods yep we can say a tar

about oh I suppose what's that three-close the mile away which is where the heavy-dark ferry is yes

what was but it's all wooded there's little buildings and stuff but but it's only about

oh third of a mile isn't it the width of the perimeter yeah I mean maybe a mile maybe a

half a mile but you know it's it's next to nothing and and we're on the flat pole the flood plain

of the river the river Rhine here to now a big high maze field growing but probably wouldn't have

been back in the day and to our right so to the to the east is the railway bridge which of course

was blown on the first day yeah when two par have got there because this is the root two

par came through along the bottom here because they were they were sent to take the railway

bridge and then the road bridge they had a lot they had lots of the tiger route was just along here

yeah yeah yeah so you're right though there's high ground it's not the I mean it's not the worst
