Summary

We love the beautiful pleasures of life. Sitting on the porch of our vacation home while listening to the birds sing. Or we are having a glass of wine at the end of the week to relax. But can these pleasures come with too high of a price if we are working two jobs to pay for that vacation home or drinking a bottle of wine every day to get by? Balancing with life and finding simple pleasures in our everyday lives is a far more peaceful way to live our lives. In this talk, we explore how to find this balance.

Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Have you ever seen perhaps in person or on a video, someone living on the street,

0:13.0

because they're addicted to drugs,

0:15.1

and their lives are just horrid.

0:17.5

And we look at that and we say,

0:19.3

why would they do that?

0:21.3

What a horrible life? What would possibly make them lead a life like that?

0:25.9

The question today is that we really need to ask ourselves is are we doing the same thing?

0:32.3

Really? I'm pretty is are we doing the same thing?

0:33.0

Really?

0:34.0

I'm pretty sure most of the people listening to this talk right now

0:38.0

aren't living on the streets addicted to heroin or meth

0:41.0

or some other drug.

0:42.0

I'm pretty sure of that. But are we addicted to or

0:46.7

sacrificing way too much for what we think are the thrills of life, the pleasures, because that's what it boils down to.

0:56.4

If you really want to know why so many people end up on the streets that are addicted to drugs,

1:02.2

it's because the high that comes with those drugs is amazing.

1:07.0

I wouldn't recommend that any of us try it, but they'll describe it to you as I've described it to me.

1:13.2

And it is an amazing experience, one that few of us without drugs will ever experience.

1:19.4

And these drugs are so powerful that no matter what's going on, if they're waking up every day sleeping in their own feces or perhaps having to sell their body to different men every single day just to get that drug that high they're willing to do that

1:35.8

because that high that brief sometimes fleeting high is so spectacular and a lot of times the high only happens once or twice in their life

1:46.6

and they spend the rest of their life trying to recreate it. Now you may be

1:51.6

wondering what in the heck does this have to do with my life.
