One of the most moving Super Stories I’ve had the privilege to record. It’s about postnatal depression, breaking taboos, and how one brave mom willing to share her darkest days turned everything around. Gemma thought everything was going to be easy. They were ready for a baby. Then COVID struck, and between dealing with a newborn, the isolation and fear… her mental health spiraled. She loved her baby but she no longer recognized who she was. Nothing felt normal. She raged, hallucinated and sunk deeper into despair. Finally diagnosed with severe postnatal depression and given proper meds, she began to experiment with other modalities, including meditation. When she found Superhuman, that’s when everything started to change. If you’re a new mom struggling with your emotions, this is one Super Story you won’t want to miss.
Topics:
-Gemma’s life before the baby.
-The moment after the birth when she knew something wasn’t right.
-Anxiety, paranoia, insomnia, why she assumed this was just new motherhood…
-Then came postpartum rage and sheer emptiness; she felt there was no way out of despair.
-How it affected her marriage.
-Why she waited so long before going to the doctor.
-Her diagnosis—postnatal depression—gave her relief but also made her aware of what a stigma new moms face when things with a baby aren’t “perfect”.
-The meds began to work. With more clarity, she started trying other things, like meditation.
-Discovering Superhuman, and how easily the walking meditations fit into her new routines.
-Her breakthrough moment, when she knew things were getting better…and BETTER.
-Her advice for other new moms going through dark times.
