Summary

I don’t stay young by trying to preserve it. I stay young by maintaining it through what I do every day. Age will keep moving no matter what, but decline only happens when I stop putting in the work. In this episode, I explain why youth is built through habits, not protected by avoiding life. If I remove structure, I start to regress faster, especially as I get older. But when I keep my standards high and stay consistent, I can extend my prime and keep my edge. Show Notes: [04:34]#1 Physical Youth Is the product of load and restraint. [10:16]#2 Mental Youth requires challenge of the mind, friction, not comfort. [14:56]#3 Identity determines your trajectory after the age of 40. Aging is automatic. Now, you will automatically age every year you'll be a year older. Decline,

on the other hand, is optional. You do not have to decline just because you're getting older.

Most people allow themselves to decline drifting because of their age.

Today's topic is youth is maintained, not preserved.

1:03.4

The difference between these two terms, pretty simple.

1:06.3

To maintain something means it's there, you put a fence around it and you do certain things, including

1:11.5

building that fence to make sure that that thing remains how it is. It's kind of like you maintain

1:16.8

your front lawn at your house. To maintain your front lawn, if there's dog poop in there,

1:21.3

you pick it up. If there's trash, you get rid of it. When the grass grows, you cut it. When

1:25.7

there are weeds, you pull them. You

1:27.8

manicure it. You do things to maintain the lawn. To preserve something, you just have it there and you build a box around it or a fence around it in the same way that you would maintain. But then you don't actually do anything else. You just kind of get it, leave it there. You just try to block anything else from touching it. That's to preserve something. In food, for example, those you know anything

about nutrition or have read or heard anything about it, many packaged goods contain

preservatives. What is a preservative? They are basically chemicals that are put in packaged food
