So I was thinking about the saying, you're the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

0:07.7

And we've talked about that many times on the show.

0:12.6

But it's more than that because humans and the human mind automatically compares itself to something else.

0:21.7

And with phones, with social media,

0:24.5

I think it's because what really started first was,

0:29.7

yes, there were social media,

0:30.9

but it was on computers,

0:32.2

the apps weren't to that level yet.

0:35.4

It was just mostly messaging,

0:43.3

and it was FaceTime. It was video chat because we had Skype.

0:50.8

So anyway, it became very personal with the phone because most people started using their phones with FaceTime.

1:29.1

And then apps got the phones got better and then you were able to do more things on them it was originally phone and iPod and that at once right so it was like a Trojan horse it was very personal you would only do that with your closest people anyway so it created that real bond where very intimate and then you start putting more information on the phone, which became like an extension of yourself and then you have all your credit card information, all your passwords, everything. And then, you know, you don't have your phone. It's the key to your life. And then you're freaking, so you're glued to this thing like a pacifier and a teat. I'm not saying they're not useful. I'm not saying there aren't pros,

1:33.4

but you guys know there's always pros and cons. And there's a lot of cons if you're thinking about it in this way. So you're automatically comparing yourself to other people. Right.

1:37.9

The whole idea that the grass is always greener on the other side is also because of farms.

1:42.2

It's also because of, you know, it goes back to all humanity. You would see someone in your neighborhood. The grass is always greener keeping up with the Joneses, keeping up with the people in your neighborhood because you didn't have social media. You weren't looking at everyone and everything. You would see TV shows and think, oh, I wish I had that or I like that, but that's also a TV show. So not everyone

2:02.1

lives like that or drives that kind of car. That's a movie or that's something, you know,

2:06.4

that's no one has that. That's why it's on TV and it's a superhero movie and whatever.

2:13.1

Then you have, so it would be your neighbor next door,

2:17.6

does this with this house or gets this kind of car,

2:19.8

has this kind of clothing, or gets a new this.

2:25.6

But then it became, you see people all over the world

2:29.6

and everywhere.
