And I'm your host, Liz Kovart. Have you ever had the feeling when you visit a museum and you say to yourself,

wow, that exhibit was great? I had that experience last year when I visited the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.

Now the National Museum of the American Indian has an exhibit called Nation to Nation,

treaties between the United States and American Indian nations.

And as I walked through the exhibit, I was able to see treaties the United States has made

with American Indian nations, learn more about those treaties and the outcome of them.

I found the exhibit so fascinating that I wanted to find a way to share it with you.

David W. Penny is the Associate Director of Museum Scholarship Exitions, and Public Engagement at the Smithsonian's

National Museum of the American Indian. He's also an internationally recognized scholar and curator

who has a lot of expertise in Native American art history.

He was also involved in creating the Nation to Nation exhibit.

Now during our exhibit tour, David reveals

the story behind the National Museum of the American Indian and its creation. the approach that

the process, in details about some of the important treaties the United States is created

with indigenous nations and whether or not the terms of those treaties have been

fulfilled.
