Tarpin Springs in Florida. Tarpon Springs in Florida sits on the Gulf Coast, about 30 miles northwest of Tampa.

It was incorporated in 1887 when developers saw potential in its natural springs and mild climate.

But what truly transformed the town came in the early 1900s, when Greek sponge divers arrived

from the Dodecanese Islands, bringing their skills and traditions with them. They built a thriving

sponge industry that made Torpon Springs the sponge capital of the world. By the 21st century,

the sponge industry had declined, but the Greek heritage remained woven into the fabric of the town.
