I live in West Palm Beach and I'm calling about a possible welfare check of my father.

Tarpin Springs in Florida. Tarpon Springs in Florida sits on the Gulf Coast, about 30 miles northwest of Tampa.

It was incorporated in 1887 when developers saw potential in its natural springs and mild climate.

But what truly transformed the town came in the early 1900s, when Greek sponge divers arrived

from the Dodecanese Islands, bringing their skills and traditions with them. They built a thriving

sponge industry that made Torpon Springs the sponge capital of the world. By the 21st century,

the sponge industry had declined, but the Greek heritage remained woven into the fabric of the town.

The historic district still drew tourists to its shops and restaurants.

But beyond the historic district, Torpon Springs had evolved into something quieter, something more residential.

Mobile home parks and modest neighborhoods spread inland from the coast,

home to retirees seeking affordable living under the Florida Sun. The Meadows Mobile Home

Park was exactly that kind of place. It was the kind of community where people noticed when

something was off, when routines were broken and when things didn't feel quite right.

In late December of 2018, neighbours began noticing strange things about the Mint Green mobile home

on Oneida Way. The air conditioning was running constantly, even though the weather wasn't

particularly hot. A peculiar smell crept out of the property,

faint at first, then growing stronger with each passing day.
