Summary

We just returned from a 10-night sailing aboard Carnival Sunshine. This was a special Carnival Journeys sailing that gave a longer itinerary with out the beaten path ports of call and programming that was unique to 1987 - like throwback sea days with captain cocktail parties, the original menu from formal night, specials Q&A sessions with the captain and the famous midnight buffet.

We talk with the Cruise Director Jaime Dee about the Carnival Journeys sailing and some of the on board programming and also seasoned cruise veteran Stormin' Norm.

Hey, what's up? My name is Doug Parker. Thank you so much for checking out this episode of Cruise Radio. Very happy to have you aboard. And I say aboard because we're on a 10-night Carnival Journey sailing, which if you don't know what a carnival journey sailing, we have the cruise director, Jamie D. Standing by, and she'll talk to us all about it in just a couple of minutes. But it's basically a longer itinerary. On this sailing, we hit

0:39.7

St. Thomas, Antigua, Dominica, Martinique, St. Croix, and Grand Turk. We started in San Juan

0:46.5

Puerto Rico, and we are sadly ending it in Port Canaveral tomorrow morning. We kind of had a rough

0:52.9

start to our cruise, too.

0:54.4

We got to old San Juan, Puerto Rico, and then had a couple of roadblocks. First, we got to the hotel we were staying, and somehow the booking company that we went through forgot to put our reservation in. So while I'm standing there trying to deal with that, Doug, you're up to me and you say, Dude, I left my backpack in the cab. So I'm standing to thinking, we have no

place to stay tonight. And I'm thinking, Doug may not even be able to get on the boat tomorrow.

1:16.9

Tell everyone how you found your backpack, because this is really some great advice for future travelers.

1:21.6

Yeah, let's back up to us landing at the San Juan Airport. We have like a 6 a.m. flight, got zero

1:27.4

sleep the night before because we have to be at the airport so early. We had like a 6 a.m. flight, got zero sleep the night before because

1:28.6

we have to be at the airport so early from the hotel. So we land in JetBlue about 10 o'clock

1:34.9

local time, get into a cab, head to the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel, and then I pay the driver,

and the driver drives off. But to back up,

1:46.8

I randomly took a photo of the license plate on the cab, which I've never done in my life,

1:52.7

out of all my travels. I don't even know why I did it, but I took a picture, and it wound up

1:57.9

helping me because I got to the old San Juan Hotel, realized my backpack was missing,

2:02.9

jumped in another cab, back out to the airport, long story short, showed them the picture I took of the cab.

2:09.9

They phoned the driver. The driver brought the backpack back to me, which was a godsend.

2:15.5

Ironically, while you're on your way back, and I was trying to do what I could at the hotel,

2:18.7

I asked the concierge, what's the best thing we can do? And she says, if you can remember from now on when you travel, make sure you take a picture of the tag of the cab. So I don't know why in the world you did it, but it sure was a godsend. And just the fact that, A, I got the bag back, but I had my passport in there.

2:18.5

I had my MacBook. I had my audio recorder in there. I had all my cables, my GoPro camera, like $5,000 worth of stuff in my backpack. And it all came back in one piece. It was just nothing but God. It had to been. Yeah, it was absolutely
