Summary

Loving God with all our heart, soul, and strength is a beautiful command, one designed to deepen our relationship with Him. Yet, when we truly consider what it means, it can feel overwhelming.

When we experience a true relationship with Him, nothing else will satisfy our soul. While we will always be growing in our love for God, we do so with the assurance that He strengthens us, renews our minds, and transforms our hearts. And even as we strive to love Him more, we rest in the truth that “we love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

Hey everyone, welcome to another episode of Monday Meditations.

0:04.0

To start the week off right, the phrase we're going to be meditating on is loving God with all our heart, our soul, and our strength.

0:14.3

Loving God with all our heart, soul, and strength is a beautiful command.

0:19.3

It's one that was designed to deepen our relationship with him.

0:23.2

Yet, I can speak from experience. When we truly consider what it means, it can sometimes feel

0:29.5

really overwhelming. Well, thankfully, God was intentional in naming these specific areas.

0:35.5

Our heart is the center of our emotions and desires.

0:39.5

Our soul represents our very being, our identity and purpose, and our strength includes our

energy, our passion, and our might, and our mind is the seat of our intellect and reasoning.

0:51.8

And together, these aspects encompass every part of us, and all should be

0:55.9

directed towards God. What we focus on reveals what we cherish, and as Christians, our primary

1:01.8

pursuit should be Him, should be God, and we should seek Him first. Always, for our desires,

1:09.0

our actions, and even our struggles, we need to make sure that they're

1:12.4

in alignment with His will, leading us to a life of true ultimate freedom.

1:18.7

However, one amongst many reasons why this command can feel overwhelming is that we often

1:24.2

believe we must achieve it through our own strength.

1:28.0

We think that once we become Christians, we should have everything figured out,

1:31.7

that the struggle should somehow magically and miraculously disappear,

1:36.0

and that we should reach a level of perfection, which is so unbelievably incorrect.

1:42.7

But if we have walked with Christ for any amount of time, we know that this is not true.

1:48.9

We are always in the process of sanctification, growing but never fully arriving until we are with him in eternity.

1:56.9

And yet we are not left to strive alone, thank goodness. God has given us his spirit as our helper.
