Summary

In this episode, I share about the powerful role responsibility and accountability play in our lives. I talk about the discomfort of realizing our choices shape our reality and discuss the importance of facing uncomfortable truths for personal growth. Additionally, I share an excerpt from Liberated Love, the book I co-authored with my wife, Kylie, to emphasize the transformative power of radical responsibility and making empowered choices aligned with our values. I wanted to dive deeper in the idea of responsibility.

0:03.0

And the reason I want to do that is because nothing in your life changes unless you're

0:09.0

actually willing to take 100% accountability for your life.

0:13.0

Now the confronting part of this and the reason we don't necessarily fully own that is because

0:20.0

if I move towards everything in my life is here because I said yes to it,

0:24.8

then that means I have to be with the cognitive dissonance, which is the pain of knowing something

0:29.0

is true. I have to be with the dissonance of the reality that if it's in my life and I chose it,

0:34.8

then that means I chose it so I am choosing something that's

0:38.3

not good for me. That's the kind of reality we actually need to get to because it's through

0:42.6

getting to those types of realities that we can then change because you can't change something

0:46.6

you don't acknowledge. We have to get right with reality.

0:55.0

We have to. We have to actually be with the truth.

0:58.0

And I remember as a kid, my dad said to me that a very small percentage of the population can actually do an accurate audit of their own lives.

1:07.0

And I would say it's even hard, even if you're self-aware, because it's through the

1:12.4

experiences you have relationally, the frictions you have that you actually do discover

1:17.5

the things you cannot see. It is relationships that shine the spotlight on the things that

1:23.9

aren't yet healed, on the reactions we have, the fears we have.

1:28.0

So when we push away relationship, we push away learning.

1:31.6

But when we're actually ready to say, I take full responsibility for my life and I'm ready

1:35.4

to rock, I'm ready to do this, then we wake up to conscious choice and that's when

1:40.4

our life becomes a playground.

1:42.7

And it also, we become responsible for saying no to things.
