Music Ancient History Podcast in the country. You know, I'm going to One Getty Beach sits about 40 kilometres north of Cairns, along a stretch of the Captain Cook Highway, where rainforest meets ocean.

In October of 2018, far North Queensland was easing into spring.

The air was thick with humidity, the sea warm, the beach is quiet now that the tourist crowds

had thinned.

One Getty wasn't the kind of beach that appeared in glossy travel brochures.

There weren't any resorts, no surf clubs, no crowds of sunbaters.

Just a small camping ground at the southern end, a car park with a few picnic tables,

and kilometres of sand stretching north.

It was the kind of place that locals knew about,

a place to walk your dog, to escape the noise,

to sit with the sound of waves and nothing else.

The beach had been there long before the Europeans arrived,

and now it was just another quiet stretch of coastline,

where people came to be alone.
