As y'all recall, when Rich was flying solo last week, he started to set the stage for

the next part of the battle that we're going to look at.

And that's the fighting that takes place under Lysekent on the northern end of the

Federal's Fischer line of defense.

When the Confederates attack, Culp's Hill and Cemetery Hill.

As you guys will note out, recall part of Robert E's lease plan for the second day of the

battle was that while Long Street launched the main Confederate assault against the left

end of the Federal's Fischer line of defense, second court commander Dick Yule was to

demonstrate against the other end of the Union line and to convert that demonstration

into a real attack should the opportunity present itself.

And so there, on that bloody Thursday, a separate struggle was in progress, one that would

grow to pose its own serious threat to the Federal position at Gettysburg.

These orders to Yule called for him to start his demonstration as soon as Long Street

began his assault on the opposite end of the enemy line.

But of course, Long Street's assault was delayed by marching and counter-marching.

And then the troops getting into position.

And so Long Street's big attack didn't kick off until late that afternoon.
