Growing up in a Catholic household in Belfast in the 80s and 90s came with a lot of experiences in itself

But here are the paranormal experiences I have had so far

My grandfather died when I was seven years old and this was my introduction into the Irish experience of death. Not only does it come with the dead body

of course but there is preparing the house, opening the windows in the room where he passed, so his soul could leave in his journey to heaven, phoning all the family and spreading the word, getting the funeral directors in to lay him out in his coffin.

It seems as though I blinked

and the empty quiet still house was now rumbling full of people's faces that I never knew.

I had a close bond with my nanny, his wife.

She was in the back room where a granddad was. I was stood at the door to the room.

The spring sun sliced through the net curtains, blowing softly in the breeze directly

where my granddad's coffin was laid, a calm moment in all of the chaos.

She said, come here love, don't be afraid. I wasn't feeling anything to be honest,

certainly not fear.
