Summary

In this jam-packed (and super practical) conversation, I sits down with Elizabeth Urbanowicz, founder of Foundation Worldview, to tackle “the talk” for kids ages 4–10—without the awkwardness, the shame, or the purity-culture baggage.

Elizabeth models exact, age-appropriate language for:

Bodies + biology (male/female, privacy, and protection)

Sex + marriage (framed as a covenant promise, not a dirty secret)

Reproduction (simple, clear, and biblical)

Pornography (the “Stop, Run, Tell” plan every child needs)

Gender confusion + transgender claims (truth with compassion)

Homosexuality (God’s design, sin’s distortion, and the hope of the gospel)

Masturbation (when and how to address it)

We also discuss the modesty conversation, responding to the painful message many girls heard in church: “Cover up or men will lust.” Instead, we reframe modesty as redirecting attention back to God...without making the body feel inherently shameful.

If you’ve been hesitant because you don’t want to “mess it up,” this episode will put tools in your hand and confidence in your words.

But I just remember like a few times at church, you know, wearing something that my parents had approved and even looking back on it.

I'm like, I don't think that was immodest, but just being told by other people at church that like I needed to cover up more because then all of the men were going to lust after me. And I just got this feeling that like my body was inherently shameful, you know, or, you know, like was something that I needed, you know, to be embarrassed by. And that's not what scripture presents.

Scripture presents.

0:21.6

Scripture presents our bodies as inherently good.

0:24.6

And Scripture presents the fact that our bodies were designed for human sexuality is something

0:29.3

that's inherently good in its proper context within those boundaries that we've been talking about.

Today's episode is all about the talk. If you have kids that are about four through 10 years old, if you know anybody with kids

0:52.3

ages 4 through 10, today's episode is going to be so practical,

0:56.3

so informative for you. I just finished a conversation with my friend Elizabeth Urbanoitz.

1:00.9

Many of you know her because she is the founder of the Foundation World View curriculum that

1:06.0

we partner with on this podcast. But I am telling you, the conversation that we just had

1:10.3

was so practical.

1:12.7

So many Christian parents, I think, are a bit hesitant to know how to have the talk about the

1:18.0

birds and the bees with their kids. And I think a lot of this is because we're seeing the

1:21.9

fallout of some of the abuses of purity culture. We're seeing the fallout of how some of us grew up where sex was

1:29.2

presented as a negative or a dirty thing. And I just love the way Elizabeth approaches these

1:34.8

questions. And I want to give you a bit of a disclaimer. This may not be the episode you want

1:39.1

to listen to with your children, because Elizabeth models actual language. She gives us words exactly how to explain

1:47.3

some of these things to our kids. We covered so many topics in this jam-packed episode. We talked

1:52.8

about how to talk to your kids about gender. She gave very specific language for that.

1:57.3

How to talk to your kids about sex and procreation. How to talk to your kids about

2:01.9

homosexuality and transgenderism. Again, very specific language. And we even covered topics like
