Hello and welcome to our annual roundtable books of the year episode. Tis the season when some of the regulars and some guests talk amongst themselves about what books moved and shook them during the year.

Round the table today, we've got, of course, Saul David, of course Roger Warhouse,

of course, making his annual appearance, Richard Foreman, literary impresario, extraordinary.

And we're also extremely lucky to have Antonia Senior, a wonderful writer, espionage expert,

author of Stalin's apostles, a seminal work about the Cambridge spies.

So just to show we're not complete male show me as sheikhail this place, we do like to have

a woman present who usually shames us with her wit, charm and erudition. We're sure it's going to be

the same this year as it has been every other year. So okay, the way we're going to do this is we're

going to each pick two books that we particularly like this year and throw in at the end one that

we just think deserves an honourable mention.
