📜 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 40:1-5

Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
    and cry to her
that her warfare is ended,
    that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lord's hand
    double for all her sins.

A voice cries:
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord;
    make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be lifted up,
    and every mountain and hill be made low;
the uneven ground shall become level,
    and the rough places a plain.
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
    and all flesh shall see it together,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

and how would they have understood this Messiah coming into their midst? You know many of the people of the day did not

0:45.6

recognize Jesus as the Messiah and in fact most of them outright rejected him

0:51.1

as their Messiah because he wasn't what they had as a preconceived

0:55.6

notion of who the Messiah would be. But I want to go today to Isaiah

1:01.1

chapter 40. This is one of the most clear prophecies about

1:06.8

the coming of the Messiah and I want to read through it and think about who was

1:11.8

this Messiah who really did come back in that day. Jesus the Christ, the

1:18.8

son of the living God. Isaiah chapter 40 reads this way.
