On October 21st, 2021, news broke that the director of photography, also known as a cinematographer, on the set of the Western movie Rust, had been shot and killed. Her name was Helena Hutchins,

and the person holding the gun when it happened was actor Alec Baldwin.

The story immediately exploded across headlines and for months, people everywhere were

talking about what happened on that movie set. At first, Helena's death was described as a tragic

accident, something sudden, something no one could have predicted.

But as police documents began to surface, that picture started to change. Because while Helena's

death was absolutely fucking tragic, it was also something that absolutely could have been prevented.

Several things went wrong on that set, things that should have never happened, and together

those failures led to the death of Helena Hutchins, a mother, a wife, a talented cinematographer,

and someone deeply loved by the people who knew her.
