Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen. We're going to jump right into Psalm 5 today, and this is another Psalm of David. And just in case you're playing it at home, the notes say that it is for pipes.

Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my king and my God, for to you I pray.

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice.

In the morning, I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.

For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness.

With you evil people are not welcome.

The arrogant cannot stand in your presence.

You hate all who do wrong. You destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, Lord, detest. But I, by your great love, can come into your house. In reverence, I bow down toward your holy temple.

As we said, this is the Psalm of David. And one of the reasons I like to point out that it's for pipes is that this is a song. I don't know the tune for it, so I won't be singing it for you. It's interesting for us to remember that these are songs. In fact, I do know a version of Psalm 5, which is one of the reasons that I stopped as I was looking at various Psalms. Again, there's 150 different chapters, so I'm not planning on doing all of them.

One of the reasons that I like Psalm 5, though, is this talks about David starting his day

in the morning.

Lord, you hear my voice.

In the morning, I lay my request before you.

So David is starting his day in prayer.

Now, this particular Psalm points out a time in David's life

when things are not going well, when he has a lot of enemies that he's worried about, when he's

worried about the wickedness and evil people. And there's a lot of David Psalms that deal with

that. Just like there's a lot of country Western songs that deal with breakup,

it is a time when you are thinking of God. It is a time when you express how you were feeling,

or the psalmist did, express how they're feeling. So a lot of these psalms take place in difficult times

and take place with difficult people. And when we say difficult people, we're not talking about

...
