πŸ“œ TODAY'S SCRIPTURE: Luke 2:22-38

22 And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”)24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, 28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,

29 “Lord, now you are letting your servant[e] depart in peace,
    according to your word;
30 for my eyes have seen your salvation
31     that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and for glory to your people Israel.”

33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin,37 and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.[f] She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Welcome back to the morning mindset edition of the

0:08.2

bullet bill change podcast. My name is Carrie Green. I'm nobody special

0:12.4

just a retired pastor. Fellow Perry Green. I'm nobody special to

0:12.7

to a retired pastor, fellow brother in Christ, who

0:17.4

believes that we as believers in Christ

0:20.2

have a responsibility and actually the privilege of aligning our minds with the way God

0:26.7

thinks about the world that we live in and about our role in it and we need to do that every single day within moments of

0:36.3

waking up because we are going to default to a pattern of thinking that is not

0:41.1

align with the way God thinks. It is not aligned with his way of doing

0:46.3

things. And so it's vital that we get into the practice and make a discipline of doing so every single morning. And this is what the morning mindset is all about.

0:56.4

We've been doing so most recently looking at the Christmas story in yesterday's

1:00.8

edition.

1:01.8

We talked about two characters that are not often highlighted

1:06.1

in the Christmas story. An old man named Simeon and an old woman named Anna and they both hung out around the temple and they prayed and they

1:16.1

sought God they were faithful people and they had been waiting for what Luke calls the consolation of Israel.

1:27.0

Meaning, this blessing, this time of peace,

1:30.2

this time of healing that God was going to bring through the arrival of the Messiah.

1:37.2

And so Simeon and Anna both have been waiting for that.

1:41.3

And I'm here to tell you waiting is a tough thing, isn't it?

1:44.0

We don't like to wait. We're impatient even at stoplights.

1:48.0

In our city, I mean, our little town has one stoplight

1:52.0

and you can get so impatient sitting there and you probably don't even sit there for a full 60 seconds.
