Wild Wild West Part 1

The desert is a notoriously unforgiving environment.

The climate, the wildlife, the terrain all make it damn near uninhabitable.

But we do it.

We crank the air conditioning, jump in swimming pools, and eat ice cream for months on end,

hoping for even an Iota of relief from the seemingly unending days of summer.

The heat has been known to incite insidious behavior in desert dwellers.

And back in June of 2008, it seemed a bloody summer was only just kicking off.

In the early morning hours of June 20th, 2008, Penal County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the Paulson home in a patchy junction Arizona of superstition in Tomahawk.

They're looking for 15-year-old David Paulson, and this is his last known address.

As they roll up onto the desert property and the darkness of the very early morning, their eyes are open for a stolen work truck.

And they halfway expect to see it just parked there.

But they don't.

Instead, their flashlights glance upon a body, lying face down in a drainage culvert near the front yard of this naturally desert landscape home.

It was a bloody, dark-haired teenage boy, and he was dead.

The boy whom deputies were in search of was 17-year-old David Paulson, born in nearby Mesa, Arizona in 1990.
