Welcome back to the peripheral. It's been a interesting month getting this episode out. I re-recorded this intro about three times, so I'm just going with the fourth and then I'll be done with it.

This episode, I was going for a lighter theme, trying to lighten up the show a little bit.

The next few episodes are going to take on a darker tone, so trying to give everybody a break from that.

This episode is about parenting and some of the stigmas that follow single parenting or same-sex parenting.

Our first interview is about a same-sex couple that goes through IVF

and all of the curious and wonderful options one has at their fingertips

when choosing the right baby for them.

Okay, so my name is Jenna, and I wanted to share my story about me being in a gay marriage

and how we decided to have a baby, how we went about that, And we ended up using the process of IVF, which is in vitro fertilization, which is where the egg is fertilized outside of the body.

I'll talk about IEY, which is intra uterine insemination, where they go in and they put the sperm directly in the path

of the egg and that's done inside the body so um you know there's a couple options but IVF is outside

the body so basically your petri dish baby is that where the test tube baby term came from? Yes. Okay. I remember that from the 80s.

Yeah, because that's technically what my little embryos are housed in right now. They're frozen in a little

test tube in some deep freeze type chamber. I don't, I don't know where they are exactly, but I know they're frozen in a little

test tube. How did you meet your partner? How long have you guys been together? And how did you come to

this decision? So I was living in Texas and I knew I wanted to be a mom and I hadn't dated anyone

in years and I was okay being on my own.

I worked a lot.

I worked for one of the biggest makeup companies that are out there.

I managed for them.

I just wanted to be a mom.

And most of my family had moved to Arizona.
