John 7 37 through 39 on the last day of the feast, the great day,

Jesus stood up and cried out,

if anyone thirsts let him come to me and drink.

Whoever believes in me as the scripture is said out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. Now this he said about

the spirit whom those who believed in him were to receive for as yet the spirit

had not been given because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Now connect these dots together.

Jesus promised that those who believed in him would have rivers of living water flowing from them.

And John tells us this is a reference to the spirit who would not yet glorified.

So what happens as the Book of John goes on is we see Jesus die on the cross for

sin, rise from the dead in victory over sin.

Then we know he ascends into heaven

and he sends his spirit just like he promised.

To all who have put their faith in him, and his spirit becomes a river of living water flowing from us.

So think about it. In John 4, Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well,

drink for me and you'll experience the satisfaction

of living water in you.

But now it's not just about living water in you,

it's living water flowing from you. The spirit of God, Christian,

dwells in you and is intended to be a source of life flowing through you in a way that

affects others around you.
