Our first step in planting our gardens is usually to consider what we want to grow.

We'll flip through seed catalogs or browse our garden center or nursery when their plants come in.

But oftentimes, especially when we're beginners, we don't consider that we actually have a decision to make with each plant.

Will we start the seeds indoors? Will we plant the seeds

directly in the garden? Or will we purchase transplants from the garden center? Many times

beginners will buy their own seeds without knowing what to do with them when they start

to buy those seeds. They don't know whether to start indoors or to plant in the soil or then

the big question, when starts to dampen the dreams of a garden with a big sense of overwhelm.

In both today's episode and in part two next week, my goal is to help you get over these hurdles

and tell you which seeds that you, if you're a beginner, do not want to start ahead of time indoors.

And if you're not a first time gardener, I'll talk about some of the exceptions.

Many of these I actually do start indoors and I'll tell you why and what you need to know if you want to try it yourself.

I was thinking about this topic as I was looking through the flower portion of the seed catalogs I'm shopping for this year.

I've never really been a flower gardener, but over the last few years, I've enjoyed growing pollinator plants like calendula, nasturtium, alice, sunflowers, marigolds, and zinias.

I've pretty much got those down. But when it comes to the other flowers, I was clueless. Are these cool season flowers or will they thrive in our

hot Arkansas summers? Should I start them indoors or plant them directly in the soil? Now, I know I can

research all of these things,
