Summary

I’m going to challenge you on something today. Are you ready? I want to know how you get caught up in distraction from action? Do you get stuck in vicious loops of email → social media → checking work data and never actually dig into the projects that will take your business or career to the next level? Or maybe your vicious loop looks more like pick up toys → clean up kitchen → change laundry → check phone, over and over all day long? Or what about the constant loop of researching → planning → list making? Or maybe you make rules for yourself that distract you from the action - like, “I must wash all our baseboards and organize my closet before I start my [book/blog/podcast/apply for a job/write the email asking for a raise].” Sound familiar??? All of this is a distraction from the action - busyness that serves as a facade for productivity. We mistake tasks and to do’s for goals and action steps. There is a huge difference though. Tasks and to do’s don’t take a closer to realizing our dreams. In fact, they are often hiding places and safe spaces that hold us back from our dreams. Conversely, goals and action steps are critical steps toward accomplishments that reap great benefits - much greater than clean baseboards.
