Hello and welcome to this special edition of Battleground with me, Patrick Bishop and of Roger Morehouse, which we're recording on Saturday morning just after the news has emerged

that this peace plan, we were talking about in the last episode, cooked up without consulting

Ukraine by Washington and Moscow, looked more like a kite-flying exercise rather than a serious

proposal. Now we know differently, and this is very bad news for Kiev, and indeed

anyone who cares about freedom and justice in the world. In a dramatic video address, when

the news became a real thing, if you like, President Zelensky told the nation, today is one of the

most difficult moments in our history. The pressure on Ukraine is

now at its most intense. Ukraine may now face a very difficult choice, either the loss of dignity

or the risk of losing a major security partner. Well, I think he sums it up pretty accurately

there. So I think we're now at a very

significant moment in the story. The plan hasn't been formally published, but the people

drawing it up and the people around them have been leaking like sieve, so we know pretty much

what's in it. But it has to be said that elements do change depending on which leaked report you read,

suggesting that it's still in the process of being finalised. We do know, both Trump and Putin

are essentially behind it. Indeed, reports say that Trump has given President Zelensky

until this coming Thursday to agree to it. We've been speculating

recently that Trump was beginning to tow, indeed had tired of his peace-making efforts in Ukraine,

but apparently not. And it now seems he's in a greater hurry than ever to rush something through,

regardless of how unfair or how ugly the settlement might be,

or indeed the boost that it will deliver to a man and a state, that is Putin and Russia,

the most decent politicians regard as pariah's why, I suppose, are we surprised.
