So you actually grew up in Hawaii for part of your life.

Very first part, I was actually born in Hawaii in 1938 and one of the interesting things

is that my brother and I watched Pull Harbor from our tree fort.

Not just the base, but you actually saw the battle.

Well, we didn't, I think I did.

I'm not sure if I created the memory or it's actually imprinted in my mind, but I do have a memory of it.

My brother and I were actually up in the tree fort on Sunday morning and my brother noticed this commotion

down at Pearl Harbor which was probably five miles as the crow flies.

Went down and got my mother and father, they got up into the tree fort, and my father hypothesized

that the oil storage tanks were blowing up for some reason and then a Japanese

aircraft crashed just 50 meters in front of our front door. There was a crashed plane

in front of your house. That's correct. Yeah. And how long did you live in that area?

Well actually my parents were convinced that Hawaii would be occupied and so we made for the

mainland in 1942 we moved from a very naive community in society to a very

affluent area which was Piedmont, California in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Bay Area. Oh okay so we grew up in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Bay Area.

Oh, okay, so we grew up in the same spot then.
