But continuing Sam Tember, this week we are talking about Sphere, 1998 Sphere.

Yes, based on a book by Michael Crichton.

One of those situations, I think, where the sort of general ideas of the original text had

already been visited in so many other pieces of pop culture before the actual thing was adapted.

So it seemed derivative, even though it wasn't necessarily.

Sure.

And I feel like the first half, maybe the first third of this movie is pretty good.

And I really like the characterization of Justin Hoffman's character being a weiner.

I enjoy that quite a lot, but you're right, it feels derivative, even if the book wasn't

when it came out.

And the third act just feels like a big old mess.

Oh, yeah.
