Thank you to everyone who had kind feedback about our most recent episodes, so we've been covering the impacts of a vegan diet on

health in episode 342. And then last week in episode 343, we covered the topic of causality

within nutritional science. In today's episode, we're going to be talking about an incredibly important topic that has

wider social implications. And we're going to be talking about food poverty. And we're going

to be looking at this through the lens of how it's currently manifesting in some developed nations

with probably most of the focus based on some of the data in the UK,

but this is also an issue that extends to pretty much any of the other Western European

countries, the US, Canada, Australia, etc. in various different forms.

However, some of the specific data points may relate to the UK in this context, given that

today's guest, Professor Martin

Carraher, is based in London in the UK. So Professor Carraher is a professor of food and

health policy at the Centre for Food Policy at City University of London. And he has worked

for and acted as a consultant to the UK Department of Health,

to the World Bank and to the World Health Organization.

He was on the London Food Board, which developed some of the food strategy for London.

He is a member of the International Obesity Task Force Scientific Committee and he also sits

on the Safe Food Ireland Scientific Committee too

and of course with a topic like food poverty much of the focus is going to be a political one

considering some of the policies that are about some of the political philosophies as well as

looking at this from a social and economic perspective, and how that has
