Is tithing just a Catholic tax? Ed Condon is next.

Your Catholic Faith. I'm Sy Kelly at your host and a very happy Easter to you. Not many people

attending parish services, at least in a relative sense, on this Easter and as a matter of fact,

throughout the last year. And this has raised concerns about whether parishes are going to survive,

whether we'll have the same number of parishes when all of this is over as we had at the beginning

of all of this. And this brings up the question of our obligation to support Catholic parishes,

another Catholic institutions. Often we're asked the question, do I have to tithe as a Catholic

tithing being the idea that you give 10% as a matter of fact tithing coming from the word for a

tenth? Do we have to tithe? They certainly did in the Old Testament. Is there a New Testament

requirement for tithing? We asked a guy who would know a Canon lawyer and a journalist Ed Condon

has worked as the DC Editor for the Catholic News Agency and Associate Editor for the Catholic

Herald. And he's written for all kinds of great publications, national review, first things,
