Let's begin with a continuation of our last show.

Conservatism is not the politics of strength.

It's the politics of restraint.

And that statement shouldn't be controversial, to be honest.

And I don't know why it is.

Yet in 2025, it feels almost subversive.

Not because it's wrong, of course,

but because it collides with the way politics is now discussed,

framed and practiced across the entire ideological spectrum.

The displeasure it produces is a diagnostic.

It tells us that something essential is happening.

Our political language has drifted so far from its foundations that the basic grammar of self-government no longer even sounds familiar.

Phrases like limits and process and legitimacy and restraint are treated as weakness.

And expressions like power, control, dominance, and winning are treated as virtues.

And that's an inversion that is not accidental right now.

Almost everywhere you look, politics is discussed almost entirely in terms of power, not in truth or legitimacy, not in our law, not in moral obligation, but in power. Who has it? Who lost it? Who needs to seize it

and who must be crushed in order to obtain it? And this language dominates cable news. It
