The zebra murders. What an insane story today. The zebra murders were a series of racially motivated

attacks and murders committed in San Francisco, California by some so-called death angels.

From October of 1973 to April of 1974, a group of at least four killers truly terrorized

the city. They murdered at least 15 people, wounded at least eight others. Residents of San

Francisco lived in constant fear for months. Children were excused from school, businesses

closed early, few dared to walk alone at night, busy downtown areas turned into ghost

towns as soon as the sun set. The randomness of the attacks added so much to the terror.

Anyone who fit the general victim profile, which was anyone young or old man or woman

who was white could be a target. The perpetrators were members of the nation of Islam, part

of an alleged secretive inner circle, kind of a cult within what some already saw as a

cult. The death angels who believe that white people were truly evil beings who needed to

be killed to restore paradise on earth for black people worldwide. It's possible that

the zebra killers, as they were also known, murdered as many as 70 or more victims. The true

number of attacks will never be confirmed. They weren't arrested until one of their own

felt guilty enough to come forward and testify against them. Or felt at the time was right

to cut a deal, get immunity, and maybe pick up some reward money. And then four killers

were convicted of first degree murder and conspiracy and sentenced to life in prison.

Criminology professor Anthony Walsh wrote in a 2005 article that the San Francisco based

death angels may have killed more people in the early to mid 70s than all the other serial

killers operating during that period combined. So why did this happen in San Francisco?
