Well, happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I'm going to talk a little bit about the

history and the theology of Thanksgiving. You can tell my voice is pretty ripped up. I've had Strep the last week and it's just now getting better. So appreciate your prayers on that.

We're going to go through some quick points on Thanksgiving.

As you know, Thanksgiving here in America is based on the Puritans

and their lack of a liturgical calendar.

So this is a big Protestant feast day in America.

However, there are some Catholic facts related to that, and I wanted to share those with you and the very

first one is that Squanto is a Catholic now you'll remember Squanto was the

Native American who greeted the pilgrims, helped them survive during the winter,

showed them how to eat the corn and preserve the fish and all that, every kindergartner learns this when he goes through

kindergarten you make all the crafts so Squanto was actually kidnapped by

John Smith remember him from Pocahontas he took John or took Squanto or took Squanto back to Europe and I don't know all the details I forgot some of them but

Squanto was eventually became a catacumen and he was baptized by the Franciscans.

He was baptized as a Catholic.

So Squanto became a Catholic.

He came, I think he was over there for five years he came

back to the new world and that's how he knew the language he knew the European

customs he was able to help the Puritan. So the big winner, the big hero, is Squanto. He's, if it wasn't for him, the Puritans would have died. So
