Welcome to Crawlspace. In this episode, Tim Pilleri & Lance Reenstierna have an incredible conversation with podcasting superstar, Lauren Bright Pacheco. They speak about Lauren's career journey and then dig deep into the assassination of Mr. Michael Francke & wrongful conviction of Frank Gable. This is also the subject of Lauren's show Murder in Oregon. In January of 1989 the dir. of Oregon’s Department of Corrections, Michael Francke, was brutally stabbed to death outside his office in Salem. It was quickly ruled a “car burglary gone wrong” and pinned on a low-level drug dealer named Frank Gable, a man who Francke's own brother, Kevin, along with storied Oregon reporter Phil Stanford, believe has been wrongfully imprisoned for nearly 30 years. They believe Francke had uncovered a trail of corruption in the prison system— one that led to the top of Oregon’s political establishment. 1:03.7	but the one that we're talking about today is called Murder in Oregon, and it is about the
1:08.7	1989 murder of Michael Frankie
1:12.0	and the wrongful conviction
1:14.3	of Frank Gable. It is a really fascinating
1:16.7	story that Lauren tells us about
1:18.9	this murder, about this assassination,
1:20.8	really, of Michael Frankie.

1:24.5	is completely broken and how if they
1:26.6	want somebody convicted for a crime
1:28.2	for whatever reason, it is very quick to judge and takes no responsibility when they have
1:34.1	realized that they've made a mistake or a mistake has been made. So we get into that and we get
1:38.8	into what type of a person Michael Frankie was sort of a crusader. And back in those times, not a lot of people were as progressive as he was when it came to reforming the criminal justice system.
1:49.9	And he was fighting a corrupt prison system.
1:52.8	That is essentially what got him assassinated, his dissent of the system and his challenge to them to make things better and to clean up that corruption.
