Welcome back to the show. Today, Dave Parmenter is our guest. Parmenter is a much beloved

surfboard shaper, former pro-surfer writer, surf historian. He was married to REL's son.

His first appearance on Surf Splendor was actually five years ago now. It was episode number 101 in August of 2015. We discussed all of those

things that I just told you about him in that episode. And then in today's chat, Dave explains

how old surfboard designs are more advanced than many modern surfboard designs, why he doesn't

read surf magazines nor watch surf films.

He does give you a list of film recommendations, however, non-surf films.

And he also explains why he's spending almost all of his time in the water, in the ocean,

miles off the coast and not surfing the quote, shore break. So Dave is a really tremendous source of

information and I feel really grateful to get to know him over the course of the past five years,

but I also feel like he's really been limited simply by platforms to fully express all of the

information that he has to share. You know, writing is kind of

limited and video production requires a lot of resource and also editing. A weekly Bill Burr-style

podcast would probably be the best way for Dave to spill all of his theory and thoughts.

I don't think that I could ever convince him to do that. I've

actually kind of talked to him about something similar, and I don't think that's ever going to

happen. So we will have to rely on these occasional conversations that I get to have with him.

Along those lines, by the way, he nuked his Instagram account for the reasons that probably many of us would be interested in nuking Instagram.

It becomes more of a burden than it is kind of an additive to your life.
