Today's conversation is with last week's guest's husband, a very first in Surf Splendor

History.

Richard Koch is our subject today.

He and his wife, Amy, are living on a small island in the Maldives and working as the

surf guides for a resort stationed in the middle of a variety of world-class waves

in a region that gets really great surf nine months out of the year.

If you listen to my chat with Amy last week, you'll know that they are raising a three-year-old son on island.

One thing that we didn't cover was just how varied and many the responsibilities and

obligations of their workload is and are in relation to surf guiding. It's part forecasting,

assessing a client's ability level, and then trying to get them in the waves that are appropriate

for their skill set. But it also requires them to be photographers and videographers, which then of course requires
