Wood Prairie Family Farms
A small family farm on the edge of Maine’s North Woods is located just six miles from the Canadian border.
For over 45 years they have dedicated themselves to time-honored organic regenerative farming practices and building up the fertile soil of Wood Prairie Family Farm.

Organic REV
The first thing to understand about REV is that it is not an ordinary humic acid product that is chemically-extracted from leonardite, lignite, or other coals.
Rather, it is a 100% naturally-occurring carbon, humic acid & fulvic acid source - along with exceptionally high levels of naturally-occurring microbial biomass
that can increase nitrogen efficiency by up to 25%.  REV replaces depleted soil carbon & bacterial biomass - and absorbs nutrients to make them more readily
available to plants via their root systems.

Hey there and welcome back to the podcast. Today we're going to be talking about planning and growing a winter garden.

0:08.6

You might be asking though, what is a winter garden? And I suppose that depending on where you're located, a winter garden may look a little bit different.

0:17.0

For example, if you're in an area where you don't get any freezes, your winter garden is

0:21.2

basically a really good garden time, so it's not necessarily over the winter.

0:26.5

And if you're much more north than me, then a winter garden may only be possible inside.

0:32.8

For me, I'm in Zone 7B, and we do get a winter, but but it's fairly mild and I've been able to figure out

0:39.7

that there's a way that I can grow some things through the winter or at least into a good

0:44.9

part of the winter. This is something that I actually discovered by accident because I was planting

0:50.0

a fall garden for many years and I discovered that some things actually would last longer than I

0:55.3

thought that they would. So this year I'm actually getting very intentional and strategic about

1:00.9

planning and growing a winter garden so that I can have more food to last a little bit longer.

1:08.0

My purpose in this episode today is to give you five steps to planning a winter garden

1:13.5

whether or not this would be the right time for you to do that. With some crops, it may be too

1:18.6

late, but it might be something you want to tuck in the back of your mind for next year and see

1:23.7

if this is a possibility for you. I'm going to share with you how exactly I went about

1:28.8

planning the winter garden, what's going to be growing there, my hopes, and some specific

1:34.6

considerations when it comes to what may or may not survive throughout the winter. Hopefully,

1:40.8

by following my progress and my thought process on all of this, you can start thinking

1:45.9

about ways that you can grow further into the winter in future years.

1:52.9

Welcome, I'm Jill, and 10 years ago I started my first garden as a new stay-at-home mom

1:58.4

looking to cut grocery costs and grow my own food. Over the years,

2:02.6

with many failures and successes, I stumbled my way into becoming a gardener. And six years ago,
