Hello everyone and welcome to the History of England episode 334 Marta.

And indeed welcome to the new year 2022 it's going to be a cracker and make no mistake

you're going to love it promise.

Now for the next couple of weeks I thought we might have a bit of fun with a capital

F. Here's the thing, normally I rather avoid court scandal and things because well it's

all over the place everybody's at it so the court politics of Elizabeth's reign for

example who's in who's out who's breaking wintin in front of the queen a bit of dudders

here as part of Devorah there.

It's stuff with better popular histories than mine.

But I've missed it so I thought I should give you a dollop of the stuff like I don't know

a good big scoop of raspberry ripple ice cream.

I have an ulterior motive too because I have been reading a book called Are You Ready?

The Politics of Court Scandal in early modern England by Alistair Bellany.

I saw hundreds of them you see piled up in a window display at Wadstone's Obs just

next to one of my old publications which was piled even higher, passive, active and non-reciprocal

microwave circuits by Smokin' Joe Halshane.

Just kidding you obviously but really it wasn't an interesting book.

And then there's also Literacy and the Social Order by David Cressy which I have been

meaning to share with you for a while.

So I can get that doll come together because what we're going to do over the next couple

of weeks is cover a scandal that broke over the Jacopian court.

We are going to use that to talk about how if at all the great British public got involved
