Summary

THE INTERVIEW K + L are here, as always, to have real, honest conversations — ones that challenge us, make us uncomfortable, and help us grow. This conversation with Thaís Sky on white privilege and white fragility from 2018 is one of those.  These are important parts of who many of us are and what we experience that we need to look at in order to be better and do better. Our hope is that you are inspired to dismantle your attachment and support of systems that, for centuries, have contributed to blatant racism and inequality.  Enough is enough.  We ask that in listening, you have an open mind, are ready to learn, and are willing to explore how you can be a part of the change.  . We also talk about: Opportunities for growth Being addicted to our shitty thoughts + shitty people Trying not to compartmentalize our own spirituality Feeling unworthy of your own self-care: we can't show up for others if we’re not showing up for ourselves. The governmental + societal systems that keep certain groups of people oppressed How white women contribute to + benefit from racism How we can REALLY educate ourselves about systematic oppression + privilege When you have privilege, what is your place in the conversation? Living in an emotionally illiterate culture How to avoid tokenizing people of color What’s wrong when people say they’re “color blind” The importance of doing this work, even imperfectly (because perfect just isn’t going to happen) Deciding what kind of legacy we want to leave Find more to love at almost30podcast.com!   Resources: Learn more: thaissky.com Listen to Thaís’ podcast: RECLAIM Instagram: @IAmThaisSky Facebook: facebook.com/thaiscsky Twitter: @IAmThaisSky Almost 30 is edited by Crate Media This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy Podsights - https://podsights.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Like if you get a cut on your leg and it's a pretty big gash and you don't look at it and you don't tend to it and you don't get it taken care of, it's going to get worse, it's going to fester and eventually it's going to become so much worse, you're going to have to probably cut off that leg.

Truly, I'm Lindsey Simpsick and I'm Christian Williams reporting coming to you live just a case you don't know us. We're happier here.

1:52.0

This podcast is about having really real honest conversations. This is about Christa and I learning right along with you. And we are unafraid to have conversations that might be uncomfortable and really for our growth and for the betterment of the world.

2:10.0

Yeah, and that's really, you know, leads us to the conversation today on white privilege and white fragility. So we had this conversation back in 2018 with Taiy Sky.

2:21.0

It was so powerful. It's one of our most downloaded episodes and it was really real and raw. I get very emotional during the episode just feeling all the white guilt and the white shame.

2:32.0

But I think it's really important now for us to dig back into this topic since 2018, maybe even earlier, Lindsey and I have been doing the work in the space on ourselves personally on our own to really, you know, be better, do better.

2:46.0

And so in an effort to do that in the past couple weeks, we've been sharing information and content related to the anti racist movement and related to educating our majority white audience who we love so much.

2:58.0

And really calling in the black women and the women of color into into our space, you know, they are some of the most powerful kind loving people and I see it all the time at events and in the group, but calling more of those amazing women in truly this episode we cover just how we as white women contribute to and benefit from racism from the systemic racism.

3:20.0

How we can really educate ourselves so Taiyus is is really great in giving tactical things we can do and information that we can dig into to learn more about ourselves and our privilege and systematic oppression.

3:36.0

We also discuss what are places in the conversation. I think a lot of white women white people are unsure where they fit into the conversation. And so we talk a lot about that.

3:51.0

We also talk about how to avoid tokenizing people of color. We talk about when people say their color blind. So this episode we really cover so much that we're seeing and conversing about now.

4:05.0

And I'm very I'm very excited and honored that Taiyus had this conversation way back when and continues to do this work.

4:13.0

Yeah, just a note on this too. So as we, you know, have done the rerelease of this information right here and then with Rachel Cargill, it doesn't mean that we're not working behind the scenes to really continue as we have done. And since we started almost 30 to amplify black voices and women of color.

4:29.0

That's always been a pillar and an importance to us, but we will be continuing to do that in the upcoming weeks and months. Even more so.

4:36.0

Our intention right now is to not continue to burden these women to teach us more about our white privilege and our right fragility.
