0:53.0 | I understand why. I think there's a lot of stereotype about the idea of being a sad drunk or the idea that the reason that you're drinking a lot is because something is really wrong or you're super depressed. |
1:09.0 | What I want you to consider, and the reason why I talk about emotions so much, is that there are lots of reasons why you drink. |
1:20.0 | There are lots of reasons why you have desire. |
1:25.0 | But if you stay in the place of, I just like to drink. It just tastes good. It's what I've always done. |
1:35.0 | I'm just someone who, you know, is an all or nothing person. I just have a tendency to go overboard. If you stay in that place, |
1:45.0 | you're really going to deny yourself the opportunity to truly understand how the habit is working. |
1:53.0 | Because what I am teaching you guys on this podcast day in, day out, is the idea that your actions don't just happen. |
2:03.0 | What you do, whether or not you reach for a glass, you reach for more, you order another, what you do is created by not just what you're thinking, not just what's unfolding in your mind, but how you are feeling. |
2:17.0 | And so all of those reasons that you have to explain why it is it's hard for you to say no or why it is it's hard for you to put the glass down. |
2:27.0 | I'm not saying that none of them are true. I just want you to consider that there may be more to the habit than meet CI. |
2:36.0 | And I want you to consider this emotional piece and that we can't ignore that your feelings, negative or positive play a role. |
2:47.0 | And I talk a lot about negative emotions. I talk a lot about the ways in which we can use a drink in order to feel a little less anxious, open up a little bit more, feel a little bit more at ease. |
3:04.0 | But the fact of the matter is that it also happens with positive emotions as well. |
3:10.0 | Right. The idea of like it's a celebration. I'm having a good time. Now I feel more desire. So I've talked about this on the podcast before I've talked about the idea of augmenting emotions. |
