mini episodes. I hope it's helpful. Take a listen. When your mother would get upset with something,

how did that go down in your house? It would vary. I'd say mostly at least once a month.

Listen, I was not the type of child that would not ask questions. I was very inquisitive. In some regard, I was very defiant because I always needed to understand why is this the way it needs to be. I have a thought that's different to your thought. I would like to do this thing. And she did not grow up in that type of environment. She grew up in the way she raised me. No is no and that's the end of it.

So if she was dealing with her own personal stresses as a single parent, working so hard

and creating a loving home and providing all the things physically that I needed, then here am I asking all these

questions and stressing and not listening and being defiant. So then she would raise a voice and

it would be combative and at least once every other month I would get whipped, you know, I would

get lashes for being. And in some regard, I'm sure there was some reason I should have gotten punished,

but was that the best way of communicating your displeasure with the way I was behaving?

I don't think so, but that's what she knew.

And how does that affect a little girl getting beaten?

If I'm honest, I thought it was normal.

A lot of my friends, maybe one of my cousins, she was raised by her dad and he would literally talk it out with her, what's wrong, what's

going on, let's have a chat. So I thought it was normal. I thought it was hurtful. It was violent.
