Summary

Jake Pickering thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016, and headed back into the woods again in 2018. The second time around he thru-hiked the Great Divide Trail in Western Canada, which is a relatively unknown trail compared to more popular hikes like the Appalachian Trail and PCT. In this episode we learn about how a Wikipedia article exposed him to the world of long-distance hiking, and all about the logistics of hiking the Great Divide Trail. Make sure you stay tuned until the end of the episode to hear his crazy story about being evacuated from the GDT by helicopter, a good reminder for everyone to renew their SPOT subscriptions! There's a lot that goes

1:29.0

into planning a through hike of the Great Divide Trail. It's much different than the AT and even the

1:34.6

PCT. There's a ton of research and homework that you have to do beforehand concerning permits and

1:40.1

campsites and all this stuff. But if you're looking for a through hike that is not done by

1:45.8

very many people, if you're looking to really be out there by yourself, you know, the Great

1:50.4

Divide Trail might be the trail for you. So I hope you enjoy it. Jake, when you hear this, dude,
