But then there's a type of love where you act on it.

It is shown rather than felt.

And Barron decides that because he cannot convince Luthian not to follow him to the most dangerous place in the world, effectively the gates of hell.

He sets off on his own.

And in the Silmarillion, it explains the transition here from one scene to another fairly simply.
