The So, you know, Planfield Township in Illinois stretches across the rolling prairie landscape, just about 35 miles southwest of Chicago's gleaming skyline.

It traces its roots to a Potawatomi village on the banks of the DuPage River and the French Canadians who would trade with them.

It was the first white settlement in Will County, and the settlers came seeking fertile farmland

and opportunity. Over the decades, Plainfield evolved from a farming community into a thriving

suburban township. Long considered a small town, Plainfield has experienced substantial growth

as Chicago sprawl reached westward.

By 2023, it had become a place where families moved to escape the chaos of city life.

Trey-Lond streets wound past well-man-acured homes and playgrounds where children's laughter echoed on summer afternoons.

It was a community built on the belief that neighbours looked out for each other,

where different cultures could coexist peacefully in pursuit of the American dream.

But not everybody held that belief.

Sometimes hate confessed or behind closed doors,

invisible the neighbours who wave from their driveways and chad over backyard fences.

It was a Saturday morning, October 14, 2020.
