Visit https://thesymbolicworld.com/summit for more information about the Symbolic World Summit

Stephen James Blackwood is a Canadian-American professor, academic, and social commentator. Blackwood is the founder and president of Ralston College, a liberal arts college awaiting accreditation in Savannah, Georgia. We met on the Daily Wire+ Exodus panel where he had a lot of amazing insights and we have become friends since.

In this discussion, we talk about Stephen’s wonderful book, The Consolation of Boethius as Poetic Liturgy, an exploration of The Consolation of Philosophy, a book by Boethius. We discuss Boethius’ role and contribution to the Medieval Western world and the amazing treasury of wisdom and consolation he can still offer us today. His legacy beautifully bridges and synthesizes the ancient pagan world, and a secular space, with the foundations and hope of a Christian vision.

It is one of the most copied works of literature for effectively a thousand years.

So it's a book that essentially, it's put it this way, that anyone who could read for the

0:10.1

better part of a thousand years in the West was reading Boethius.

0:14.3

It's unbelievably influential.

And that with his other translations make their way into the Middle Ages.

And so the metaphor I like to use, it's like, you know, the flowers have died.

0:26.1

We heard I and Hershey Ali recently say, the West is a cut flower.

0:30.0

It's like the flowers have died, but these books are seeds.

0:33.8

These books are seeds of the ideas.

0:36.3

And it's as if he cast them forward into the future,

0:38.8

so that hundreds of years after his death, those seeds would grow again into, you might

0:45.4

say the beautiful garden of Western medieval culture. This is Jonathan Peugeot.

1:03.0

bringing us back to this story,

you know, expressing his wisdom with so much tact.
