I'm your host, Heather Ashley, and today's case is out of Colerine, Northern Ireland.

Small talk sucks, so let's dive in. Coleraine is a small town of about 20,000 people tucked up at the top of Northern Ireland. It's known for having more churches

than your average UK town and not just any churches. One of them, St. Patrick's Church, is believed

to date all the way back to the 5th century. Legend actually has it. St. Patrick himself founded it, you know, the guy behind

St. Patrick's Day and all of the shamrocks. But this story doesn't start there. It actually starts at

another church in town, Colerine Baptist Church. That's where two families, the Howells and the Buchanan's, worshipped side by

side. From the outside, they looked like typical church-going couples, just regular parents

raising their kids and trying to do life right. Colin and Leslie Howell were in their early 30s,

already juggling four entire kids between nine months

and six years old. Colin was a dentist who specialized in implants and people had some mixed

feelings about him. Some said he was charming and friendly, while others thought he was

manipulative and a compulsive liar. Everyone agreed that he did seem

deeply religious, though. He met Leslie when she was training to be a nurse, and she was the

complete opposite of Colin. She was ambitious, driven, full of warmth, the kind of person who made an impression for all of the right reasons. She was ambitious, driven, full of warmth, the kind of person who made an impression for all of the

right reasons. She was thoughtful, funny, and just good. Then, there were the Buchanan's, Trevor and

Hazel. Trevor was a police constable, also in his early 30s, and Hazel was a Sunday school teacher in her late 20s.
