Sam and Emma speak with Malaika Jabali, senior news and politics editor at Essence Magazine, to discuss her recent book It's Not You, It's Capitalism: Why It's Time to Break Up and How to Move On. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel’s siege of Shifa Hospital in Gaza, the continuing international backlash against Israel’s ethnic cleansing as officials call for a “Second Nakba,” the House GOP’s continuing struggle against governance, Tim Scott’s presidential campaign, and Big Tech and labor, also touching on the US Media’s continuing double standards towards Israel’s war crimes. After briefly running through the drastically different material impacts that come from electoral versus community organizing, they walk through the importance of social policy in bolstering the freedom of the public and undermining the leverage from the private sector, and parse through the importance of acknowledging the role race plays in class politics. Wrapping up, Malaika Jabali reaffirms the central role of community organizing in providing tangible results for the success of socialism and the failure of capitalism’s lens on humanity.
