| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Jealousy. A very difficult emotion. |
| 0:11.3 | Particularly if we're trying to find peace of mind and |
| 0:14.8 | happiness in our lives right now. Creating jealousy in our heart isn't going to get |
| 0:19.1 | us there very quickly. A matter of fact, jealousy is one of those emotions, one of those interactions that we have with life |
| 0:26.8 | that really can keep us from truly living well. |
| 0:31.6 | Well, what is jealousy? |
| 0:35.0 | Jealousy has two parts to it. The first one is a thought, a thought that someone else has something that I want, has something that I don't have, and I want it, and I think if I have it, I will be happier. |
| 0:50.0 | And so that sense of lack, that sense of desire creates sadness, creates envy, creates |
| 0:58.0 | dishees inside our hearts, so we suffer. |
| 1:03.0 | It's a very insidious and complicated emotion because it can come up in so many different ways. |
| 1:09.5 | We can be driving in our car and someone pulls up alongside of us and we think their car is a lot |
| 1:15.8 | nicer than mine. How come they're so lucky? What's wrong with me? Or we can walk into a |
| 1:22.4 | store and see someone who is so much better looking than we are |
| 1:27.0 | and feel less than in wishing again we were different. |
| 1:31.0 | And perhaps the biggest feeder of jealousy is social media. |
| 1:35.8 | We just casually get on our sites seeing what other people are doing and we see |
| 1:41.6 | that they're doing a lot more than we are. |
| 1:45.0 | Perhaps they purchase something, perhaps they've gotten something, |
| 1:48.0 | perhaps they're doing something, but things that we aren't doing, and we feel jealous, because they have more than |
| 1:56.2 | we do, and we want that. It can make us feel less than, it can make us feel anger, It can create so many different feelings inside of us |
| 2:05.8 | that in many ways it can be overwhelming and probably one of the leading factors |
| 2:12.2 | contributing to our unhappiness in our lives, not the only one, but it can definitely be one of the major ones. |
