Summary

Epidermal necrolysis refers to severe cutaneous reactions that cause extensive necrosis of tissue and detachment of the epidermis. 1:05.4	So when we refer to these together, we often refer to them as S, J, S, and 10.
1:11.2	So S, J.S. is Stevens Johnson Syndrome and 10. T.E.N is toxic epidermal necrolysis.
1:18.0	Before we dive deep into it, let's start off with three stat facts about S. S and TEN. Number one, medications are the
1:27.3	cause of Stephen Johnson's and toxic epidormal necrolysis in over 80% of cases. Number two, three commonly used
1:37.5	medications that are frequent causes of Sj S andN. are Fennituan, which is a medication used to treat seizures,
1:46.7	alopurinol, which is a medication used to treat gout, and sulfonomides, which are a class of antibiotics and stat fact number three
1:57.0	the leading cause of death for someone with epidermal necrolysis or
2:01.3	Stephen's Johnson syndrome or T E N is sepsis.
2:05.9	Okay, so what is epidermal necrolysis?
2:09.5	This refers to severe cutaneous reactions that cause extensive necrosis of tissue and
2:17.6	detachment of the epidermis. It encompasses three conditions which are on a continuum of severity related to how much of the body's surface area is affected.
