While Argentina remained neutral throughout the Second World War, around 4,000 Argentinians volunteered to fight for the Allies. One of them was the extraordinary Ronny Scott. Now 103 years old, the veteran pilot joins Al Murray and James Holland to recount his incredible wartime story. that? I mean, I didn't even know there were Argentinians fighting on the part of the

British, let alone Argentinian Spitfire pilot, still alive Ronnie.

Well, I reckon we had about 4000 volunteers from the British community in the Argentine

of which 398 were pilots and mostly in the ref. It so happened that I chose the Navy because

when I was about 10 years old, the first aircraft carrier came out to the Argentine with

the Prince of Wales and Prince George and I was at Hurleyham, a local club watching

the polar game and somebody galloped up to me and asked me for a tonic water. So there

was no mistaking Prince Edward. So I said, yes sir, so I went off to get his tonic water

and the only problem I had is whether I put some lemon or not inside it. The lemon was

accepted and the Prince definitely needed some tonic water and his aiquiri turned up and

he says something between them. So I had an invitation to go onboard this aircraft carrier.

It was the original kind, something that was long enough. So they had cleared the decks

and I had a very good time. I was all of 10 years old. So I checked it away in my mind.

I was about 19, either 1925 or 1929. We had an exhibition, agricultural industrial exhibition

and we had all sorts of people from England. We had Campbell with his racing car and

the sea view of his golden era. It was a really good show. In between every so often,
