Summary
It's Casual Friday! Emma speaks with Jamelle Bouie, opinion columnist at the New York Times and co-host of the Unclear and Present Danger podcast, to round up the week in news. Then, she's joined by David Doel, host of The Rational National! First, Emma runs through updates on the booking of Donald Trump, the various attacks on the prosecutor Fani Willis, the UAW, Putin’s totally earnest response to the slaying of Prigozhin, Ukraine’s counter-offensive in Crimea, the Ohio GOP’s anti-democratic move against abortion, Maui’s lawsuit against Hawaiian Electric, and a brand new COVID surge, before parsing a little deeper through the various routes the GOP is trying to take to undermine Fani Willis’ prosecution of Donald J. Trump. Jamelle Bouie then walks through his perspective on the showmanship of Donald Trump, as Bouie and Emma tackle the genuine legitimacy of the charges against him, and the greater revelations that have come out of the legal process. After expanding on Georgia Gov. Kemp’s avenue to undermine Fani Willis, and why we can trust elements of the jury process, Bouie and Emma dive into this week’s GOP Presidential debate, how they read the various candidates, and the GOP’s reversion to entitlements without the presence of Trump. Wrapping up, they assess the dismal vibe of the GOP platform heading into the 2024 elections. David Doel then joins as he reflects on his MR debut, the release of the DT Mugshot, and discusses Trump’s admiration of Vivek Ramaswamy’s admiration of him. Doel concludes the interview with a fervent apology for the existence of Jordan Peterson on behalf of Canada, before he and Emma bask in JP’s ongoing downfall on the professional and personal levels.
